Lesson sequence
Lesson One
As an introduction to the topic of Baptism read the following scripture passage to the class in a shared environment
Matthew 3: 13-17.
After reading have the students watch this 2 min youtube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoG8ZxboP0I
Discuss with the class about Jesus' Baptism.
Use the following art image to discuss what was used and the importance of Jesus being baptised.

Introduce students to the webquest and direct them to the first activity on "What is Baptism" page
Lesson Two
Recap with students on previous lesson of Baptism and their definition of what it is.
direct them to "The steps of Baptism" page to read.
After they complete the activity choose the teacher will instruct the students through a role play to act out a Baptism.If your class would not benefit from a renactement of Baptism the following youtube clip can be played instead of the whole class role play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LB5zL2apiw
The teacher will need to have:
The teacher will narrate the process of baptism and instruct the volunteers on the actions and verbal parts they need to speak. The following steps should be covered to provide students with an understanding of the ritual:
Steps/Structure of Baptism
"1. Naming of the child.
2. Sign of the cross.
3. Liturgy of the word.
4. Anointing with oil of catechumens.
5. Renunciation of sin & profession of faith by parents and godparents.
6. Immersion or pouring of water.
7. Anointing with oil of chrism (forehead)
8. Clothing with white garment.
9. Lighting of candle from Pascal candle." (Lemus, 2007, p. 3).
Throughout the role play all students should be reverant like in mass to obtain the full benefits of the ritual. Though students need to be reminded that this is not a real baptism just a role play.

- A baby doll to perform the baptism on
- 4 volunteers- Priest, mother, father and godparent
- Water
- Oil (can be a bottle of pretend oil)
- White garment
- Candle
